Architectural Beings (with I AM video projection)
René Fadinger and Elisabeth Winkler
Curated by Lina Sunish Vincent
Time: 11:00 – 20:00
Venue: Fundacao Oriente
Rene Fadinger’s artworks focus on the metamorphosis from solid to gaseous state and the reverse process, inspired by quantum physics. The concept is based on the hypothesis that empty space is intelligent and has the ability to memorise form. He sees these Architectural Beings as trying to free themselves from the rigidity of the architectural structure they were surrounded by, looking for new abstract forms, exploring diverse dimensions, and in the process changing their state of matter and density. Rene sees it as a symbolic understanding of freeing the Self. The sculptures take references from European architectural influence in Goa. These Architectural Beings are reduced to minimal constructive structures, still carrying information of the previous architectural style with the mission to ”infect” the surrounding area, in the manner in which architectural forms proliferate, go viral, and persist as if they are 3-D forms with life.
Elisabeth studied art history at the University of Vienna and specialized in the beginning of abstract art. She has done research fellowships in Paris, Washington and New York. For her postgraduate degree, she studied museology at the University for Applied Arts Vienna. She worked for several Galleries, such as Gallery Carinthia, Klagenfurt and Heike Curtze, Vienna and as a researcher at the Museum of Applied Arts Vienna, establishing the internet-application and the Design Showcases for the MAK Design-Info-Pool. Since 2012, she has been working as an independent art historian and curator. For about ten years she has also been working with René Fadinger on space-conceptions and site-specific installations.
Born 1974 in Vienna, Austria; grown up in Austria and Slovakia; lives and works in Carinthia, Austria and for several months in India. He studied at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, Institute of Fine Arts, drawing and fine art print. Since 2012 he is teaching at the Independent Academy of Fine Arts Carinthia. René Fadinger’s approach is experimental and many-layered. He combines a variety of different techniques, builds three-dimensional objects, which could also be interpreted as architectural models; he paints, draws, makes experimental-videos, takes photographs and is recently working on augmented reality projects as well.
