There are so many common-sense wisdoms about space in relationships that it sounds trite to want to engage with it seriously.
• You need your own space
• Give him/her space
• Take some space and time for yourself
• Give him/her some space and time
These are oft-used phrases that we can insert in several conversations we have been part of. They make sense everywhere, and the person at the receiving end of this advise often feels that it is very hard to put into practice. It is then a very easy-to-give advice that is very hard-to-take advice.
How do we help ourselves to take our time in the space of response, with responsibility, rather than short-circuiting to the web of reactionary impulses in us? This is going to be the subject of co-exploration in this workshop. Through responsive engagements to others in the space of the workshop, participants will begin to develop their ideas about these questions:
What constitutes space in relationships?
Which of these aspects are dear to us?
What are the costs of these aspects?
Are there different allowances for children, men and women, other identity categories?
What does thinking in categories give us and cost us?
How have we experienced space? Is our response space clear enough for emergent wisdoms to guide us in living?
What are the kinds of things that might clutter this space?
What can help with cleaning, clearing, de-cluttering, junking, beautifying, embracing and witnessing what we find in the clutter?
What does the process of this space-making enable in us?
As the curator and designer of this workshop experience, Rachana will be present to note, navigate, integrate, spell out, name and process what emerges. She will facilitate the access of participants to their own spaces of being and comfort.
This workshop will be held over 3 days, for 3 hours each. The workshops will be open to only 12 participants each and so overall only 36 people will be able to attend.
This project will be best suited for people in their late 30s onwards but anyone who identifies as adults could certainly experience it as a meaningful and perhaps a significant experience.
